I have also built this kit in the 1990's and think you did an outstanding job. I remember my kit comming with an extra Exador figure miniature. Anyone else remember that?
I have this one, made it 30 years ago… time flies
I built it years ago myself..it was fun to build it again.
That lighting is sick.
Thanks!
You needed an alien tongue to read, let alone speak Zendraati.
The officer's name was Commander Dosul if I remember. He was Admiral Gloval's arch-enemy throughout the first Macross series.
Breetai is the name of the character pictured on the box.
Gotta fire the Main Gun for a minute to fry that Not-So-Jolly-Green Gigant...
That Zendraati flagship made the the Macross look like a Veratech...
You showed your face! That collection is clutch...
Lol.. I did... thanks!
Thanks for the video; I see so few vids about painting a Mon Cal cruiser, its nice to see your process and the final result was excellent!
Sick. Sick sick sick sick.
Thanks🙂
That looks great! I never thought about lighting this kit. Incidentally, I've been building this and the three other Zentraedi starships simultaneously for my own channel. It's nice to see someone else building this kit, and the choice of colors.
Thanks! I'm on a bit of a Robotech kick...I'm working on a 3-foot-long version of this ship!
Possibly my favourite build to date. Wonderful work and I can't wait to see the larger craft project being realised. You're the BOSS!
Thanks friend!
Awesome build! Thanks again for the shout out! Keep up the good work
You're welcome! Thanks for sharing!
I like the dude fishing!
Thanks!
Love Macross! Fantastic work! Can I ask what settings you used on your FDM? That cityscape looks fantastic.
Thanks, I believe I had it at .02 layer height at 50mm a second with 10% infill..
very nice.
Thanks!
To give an idea of scale -- The SDF-1 Macross is supposed to be 3/4 of a mile long. The Zentraedi flagship (Breetai's vessel) is roughly 2.5 miles long! Yeah, ridiculous! I don't know why sci-fi does this. Most ships in real life are less than 100 ft long with most ships being well under 1,000 tons! We've built supercarriers up to 1100 ft long (85,000 tons+) for roughly 65 years but they haven't changed shape or dimension much. They're the largest practical ships for their use as a mobile airfield. There just hasn't been any point in building them larger! The largest ships are actually tankers and those like Knock Nevis's class generally have not been successful ships; they're just too large for most purposes and don't pay off very well. This business of 1,000-3,000 ft long ships in sci-fi is ludicrous! They're just not practical and the energy requirements to move them are enormous. Improbability drives indeed!
Yes, scale is off the charts! LOL. The cityscape looks cool, though it probably should be much smaller. The SDF-1 did pack a small city from Macross Island inside it so some of those buildings in the city would be miniscule compared to both ships.
I only just recently found your channel and subbed! Great diorama, I now look forward to binge watching your older content and seeing what new creations you make in the future. Great job!
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Even though that ship never entered Earth's atmosphere, this turned out really nice!
@@TrayChester01 thanks!
Very cool project, love the sense of scale with the city below
Thank you!
The plan whenever I do my Flagship is to use Olive Drab for the top and Neutral gray for the bottom of the hull.
I wasn't totally happy with how my colors came out.
@@EagleSciFiModeler The lower hull colors were pretty close. It's just the upper hull color was way off. Probably should have done the oil wash before you decaled and gloss coated.
I do need to build my kit of the Zentraedi flagship.
Commander Bretai
Ah...yes indeed!
@@EagleSciFiModeler I too watched Robotech as a kid too.
Built this in 1980, still sitting on my shelf along with the Drakonian fighter.
@@YMagoulo nice!
Interesting! The city below makes it work.
The model was so small, it needed something to give it scale.
Absolutely gorgeous 😮
Thank you!!
By far the best paint job/weathering that I’ve seen.
Thank you!
Do you think Round 2 will ever repop this kit with an updated sound board? It'd be nice if you could customize the sound!
I don't know, that would need to upgrade the lighting elements to LEDs too. The model is a nice size, it would be nice if they did something with it.
RIP, Boyd Crompton. I had no idea he had passed away when I made my comments on this video. A lot of us were taken by surprise. It wasn't the cancer that killed him. According to The Ensign's Chair, Boyd contracted pneumonia and with his weakened system he wasn't able to fight it off. It's a tragic loss for the online modeling community....
He was such an inspiration for me when I returned to modeling.
What a horrible design. This DOES NOT look like the X-71 shuttle at all. Jesus christ. It looks like a normal Atlantis shuttle colored gray
Water effect was cool. What was the reason for such a large cut out in the base?
Originally I was going to do more lighting effects and thought I'd need the space.
Very nice! Is that the largest scale kit of the X wing?
Thanks, there are studio kits available but the price increases is huge.
"In Honor of Blue Leader-- he died well!" = Klingon tribute... probably! They never did a Blue X-Wing in the original Star Wars because blue paint doesn't agree with blue screen!
I was thinking... If you have Rogue One on disc, it's not that hard to capture sound from it OR find sound files online. The entire Battle of Scarif is on RUclips already! The issue would be you'd have to find a different sound board. I think Boyd from TrekWorks has done some things with this for his Star Trek model kits. (He's a Trek guy; he's not much into Star Wars!). An adaptable/custom sound board is really the only way to acquire what you want sound effects and dialogue-wise. Sound editing is a pain but there are plenty of freeware sound editors (I use Audacity) out there that can edit just about any major sound file format (AIFF or WAV; WAV is most common and the Windows/PC standard). Even a 22 Hz, mono sound file really doesn't sound that bad. Lower than 22 Hz unless you really know what you're doing and better-than-average consumer grade generally doesn't sound as good.
Nice! I've been thinking of getting one of the 1/48th fine molds X wing...
I've built one of those before, I thought it was a very nice kit.
You could have put a light in the cockpit to add a little more realism! Great job 👍
Thanks! I decided to keep the cockpit more like the prop...it was easier...lol
@@EagleSciFiModeler I used to build X-wing's back in the 80's for shop's like Forbidden planet! Ended up having to build loads and the fun went out of it 😔 watching your build brought back the memories of the fun build's so thanks for uploading 😁😎
i have the one I bought back in 98, still in the box, never got around to it, always wanted to do it just right
It's definitely a challenge to build.
This turned out amazing, cool to follow the prop example!
@@scaleffect thanks!!
Look great 👍👍
Thanks!!
Looks really cool. I like the Glamour shots shots at the end. I'm working on a Space 1999 Eagle. I decided to build it with the orange VIP pod, so it's a little bit different than the standard Eagle. I'll send you a couple of pics when I get It finished.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing the pics.
Great job, looks really good. What did you use for the wash?
I make my own oil wash with mineral spirits.
I have the actual MPC kit from the 70s that I’ve been sitting on and literally like 2 months ago I said I was gonna do this exact project! Looks great and now I have motivation to actually do it
It was a really fun project to build!
@@EagleSciFiModeler Its officially my next project
Seeing the Prop Store auction listing in 2016 (I think it sold for $90k) gave me the motivation to build the MPC kit I purchased about 30 years ago. I can now say I have a "studio scale" model in my collection. I used the kit decals, so it is Red 5, but the paint and distressing does not follow any screen-used models. The ship doesn't look "new", but it's nowhere near as beat up as the one from the auction listing. I printed a resin R2 to replace the kit-provided astromech.
Nice. I really enjoyed the project...I'm sure I'll do more in the future.
Nice work, I didn't know they used this model in the ESB, great build, well done!
Thank you!
Who knew there were so many colors on them/ Lights are great!
I know...thanks!
It’s hard to catch when you’re watching the movie even if you pause. I built that model when it first came out but in ANH configuration. I went nuts and built the computer Luke didn’t use, coiled cord and all. Hard to see but it got compliments. That was back when my eyes were good enough for that kind of work…
@@markfergerson2145 Yup. I still remember getting my first MPC X-Wing model. It was a lifetime ago, but it all came back crystal clear as soon as I saw you cut the parts off the sprue.
Se apreciaría mejor si pagarás la luz
Hello, lovely work here. I'm learning to make stone out of xps foam myself, but what do you use to seal it before painting it? It seems to react poorly to most aerosolized chemicals. Thanks!
Thanks..modge podge is a good sealant to protect the foam, you can mix some acrylic paint to give it color.
Pretty rad!!
Thanks!
Nice job.
Thanks!
